Forklift Service FAQ’S
Why is it important to service your forklift?
- It can greatly reduce your long-term running costs and future repair bills.
- It can ensure it is always in a safe standard to use, items like steering, brakes, masts, carriages, and fork tines are likely to cause accidents when they fail.
- It is a requirement by Work Safe that your equipment is maintained regularly by a trained person and that service records are kept.
What does Forklogic do when a forklift service is carried out?
Our procedure is pages and pages long, but a general summary of what is covered in a minor forklift service:
- 40 Point Safety Function and Condition Report which is left with you for your compliance & unit maintenance records
- Lubricate all mast channels, carriage rollers, fork carriage, pivot points, linkages, chains, bushes, and bearings.
- Check all seat/seat belt mountings, load guard mountings, and rollover protection structures.
- Inspect mast assembly, lift chains, and tines – adjust if needed.
- Check the braking system and linkage, adjust if needed, and test the brake fluid.
- Check and adjust transmission/drive systems and linkages.
- Inspect wheels, tyres, and torque wheel nuts.
- Inspect and lubricate steering hubs, chains, and linkages.
- Inspect and adjust hydraulic linkages, drives, and pumps.
- Check battery levels and terminals.
If an engine-powered forklift - LPG, petrol or diesel:
- General engine check and inspection
- Replace engine oil & oil filter
If a major service is required;
- Replace spark plugs and air filter
- Inspect fuel systems and change filters where needed
- Pressure test cooling system and test coolant
